Back in the olden days (of college) Juliana was one of my professors for a couple of upper level psychology classes. Her role as counseling professor superhero morphed into general all around superhero when I started watching her then toddler-sized kids, and we began cultivating a 13-year long friendship. During my college graduation I was fortunate to have her speak on my behalf (this was possible as a graduate of a very small college in Seattle), and the core of her message rings true even today: “Now is the time”. Now is the time to dream big, be happy with myself, live a life of freedom, move ahead in what I’m doing, and if I don’t like what I’m doing, start again with no regrets. This recent photo shoot was a nice reminder of the words she spoke to me ten years ago.
I’m thankful for friends who not only stick around for the long haul, but who also come to San Diego on vacation and give me an excuse to hit my shutter button while digging my toes in the sand. If anything is grounding for me, it’s the ocean. Tacos and burritos at Lucha Libre don’t hurt either . . . If anything else is grounding for me, it’s Mexican food.
